Especially warblers.... the feathered jewels of our migration and summer seasons. And we are so fortunate to see them captured in your sharp photos, loaded with personality too! The beaks of Anna's, I also wrote about that evolution for the DP times, seeing it in other birder news an hearing it on NPR interview press/play. news flies! Good thing there are 31 days in May Ken, 3 days to invite those 5 new species. Good luck!!

Thanks so much, Dawn! I do love capturing some personality among the warblers--they have so much! It would be interesting--as others have suggested--if other hummingbirds are adapting the same way as your Anna's... I love science!

Very interesting about the evolution of the Anna's beaks. I wonder if other hummer species have followed suit.

I'm guessing the answer is yes--but it all makes me wonder what happen if people stop feeding them...? Will they change back like Darwin's finches do?

We had a few Wilson’s Warblers come through our coastal yard. It was great to watch them flit about the cassia tree.

I should have included a photo of our Wilson's...they are darling with their little toupees, and right now the most common and numerous warbler of the bunch. Thanks for reading!

The Red-faced Warbler, what a beauty, I had to go look them up. Such a distinct sound. And a lovely first name too , Cardellina. Not enough birders using genus names for their kids, otherwise Cardellina would have definitely caught on by now. The Anna’s Hummingbird photograph truly is spectacular.I think you might have to write a poem; Early Morning Pajama Hour, strictly from The Lookout’s perspective. I will have to look for the journal Global Change Biology. The topic of the way birds still evolve is so interesting. Ok, I started writing my comments as I am reading , truthfully every photograph is spectacular . It is hard to pick a favorite, I’ll keep Anna’s at the top of my list, but Townsend’s Warbler comes in a close second.

Cardellina--yes, what a beautiful and fitting name for all the gorgeous warblers! So glad you're enjoying the photos--that Anna's is one of my favorites. Sometimes the light is just right in the morning... Okay, I'll work up some poetry for you, if not a silly limerick!
