Each of your photographs are simply stunning. The California coast photos have a beautiful feel. Particularly the second one. Though the colors are muted and the clouds are a bruised gray, there is something so very pleasing about it . I’ve been staring for a while. I think it is the way all the elements of nature , the sky, water, sand, rock , plant life , all blend together in muted achromatic shades . But at the same time each subtle shade highlights the whole . Tells the story. Dark and turbulent , yet calm and endless.

The Caspian Tern stands out masterfully against the blurred backdrop of water.

Your written story of the rarity of water in the desert. And the photograph that continues where you left off, to tell the rest of the tale.

And I would not dare to leave out the Summer Tanager .

Just wonderful , Ken!

Lovely. And that eBird admin - it’s interesting that any more photos are required, even for very experienced birders.

Thanks Karen! Yeah, eBird--probably depends on the admin and the rarity sighted. Any bird will stay on your personal list, but I always like to have the confirmation. Imagine if I didn't have my camera handy when that Orange-billed Nightingale-Thrush showed up in my yard two years ago...!

In fairness to the eBird admins, sometimes it’s actually actually the state committee that requires something. I know here if you see something that actually would be a state record, you have to document it with the state committee in order to keep it as a public record in eBird. One of my good friends is an eBird admin, and we have a local guy who gets very pissed off if he hast to actually document his sightings. He definitely has a very large ego around his skill as a birder, and he really doesn’t think he should have to justify himself to a woman. So they have a tough job too.

Yes, eBird admins have it rough...especially with the advent of Merlin, which turns everyone in an "expert."
