March 10, 2024 There are no birds. Again. My friend—one of the few who knew how to live life well with passion and verve and concern for the smallest of living things—is gone. Last week, Elizabeth Bernays quietly left this world in a way of her own choosing, which was her way.
How I will miss her on Thursday evenings. I thought of her as a light, a beacon. She radiated kindness and thoughtfulness each time we met. I will miss her kind glance, her smile and her voice. I will miss her insights into shared writings. I will miss all of her.
I feel through your words , that she was an important part of your life. She left you with her passion. All it takes is one person to carry her words forward.
I was sad to read that you lost a good friend. It sounds like she lived a remarkable life and that you shared a love of the natural world and putting that love into words. I am very sorry for your loss.
Thank you, Ken. I lived across the street from Liz and Linda for several years and continued to see her when I visited the neighborhood to walk with my folks, who also knew Liz. The last time I saw her, just weeks ago, she spoke to me about you and your workshop and how wonderful both were/are. Thank you for this writing. Best, kimi
