I learned that jay alarm call while living in MD. Different jay, of course. Your vineyard looks so neat. I hope it grows well for you (after you get the vines in).

I'm getting the soil analyzed now to see what nutrients to add. Our water is very hard so I'm adding vinegar in the tanks (and choosing vines that like alkali soils).

The jays and their warnings! The blue jays will imitate red tailed hawks though I no red tail would make that call from down in a bush so I wonder how often they are really believed. What’s the beautiful black bird with the red eye? Have a wonderful holiday!

Your blue jays are bullies just like our scrub-jays! The bird with the red eye is the Phainopepla, our only silky flycatcher, sometimes called Window Wings for its white wing patches. They love desert mistletoe! Enjoy your holiday!!!

Great photos! I love the rufous in particular. Good luck with your vines. What variety? I have two wonderful pinot noir vines in my yard here in Lake Oswego,OR, near Portland. Grapes are one of my favorite, magical plants.

Thanks Michael! Indeed, a magical plant! I'm going to try some Chardonnay and Zins along with something I just learned about--Thomcords. It's a cross between Thompson seedless and Concord grapes. Apparently, they like our alkali soil better than Concord grapes. Wish I could get some of your blackberries to grow here--I keep trying!

Oh wow, the Thomcords sound promising. The flavor should be wonderful. And yes, in Oregon, we only have trouble trying to PREVENT blackberries from growing, lol. Wishing you and yours a wonderful holiday season.
