Our very strange and wonderful , rustic camp was built in the early 70s, a vision come to life by an architect , with the help of a small group of his students, with very strong arms. Not unlike your helper. Apparently he eyed a large pile of boulders , the site of an old granite quarry , and decided it was the perfect opportunity to build a post and beam structure . Mind you, there was no road to the property at the time so all materials and equipment were brought in by boat. Incorporating the massive boulders (many) as ‘walls’ , along with the usual wood and sheetrock combination. Picture walking in the front door and coming face to face with a granite boulder about 10’X 15’ which makes up part of the hallway to the main room, where the largest boulder is about the entire length of camp, and, continues straight out the roof! We purchased it 18 years ago , my husband was thrilled, me, overwhelmed to say the least. We call ourselves stewards as opposed to home owners. Keeping it ‘alive’ and making it just a little better than the previous owner. Well, I knew the name I would give it, before I even contemplated that it needed one. So I took a piece of old slate roofing from a garage sale, and painted a scene, along with the name; BEDROCK. Yes, after Fred Flinestone and the gang. We do have a lovable large dog, but not a dinosaur. You are welcome to use the name.
Maybe a sign on the front door; PJs only!
Though I do love Hermit Thrush Lookout . In honor of your little daily singer.
Oh, another idea just came to mind, here in VT, there is a short program on the radio I believe from Audubon VT, entitled;
BIRD NOTES
PS; love the photographs, especially the Black and White Warbler.
Dang, it's overwhelmingly awesome!!! That name will come to you soon. I like the Skyrie suggestion Writer's Roost? Author's Aviary? Woodsy Wildland? Ecotown? No, it should have a bird name in it. What did Karen come up with. I'm sure it is hard to leave home sometimes. I guess the best time to do that, avoiding any missed birds, would be mid-summer? But then the babes are out. The cabin looks great!
Here are some title ideas that blend the mystique of the Mule Mountains, the Bisbee, Arizona setting, and the dual purpose of the cabin—for writing and birding—in a secret treetop retreat:
Oakshadow Lookout is nice...The Watcher's Loft might make a great title for a horrow movie! Mix and match? The Perch? Hmmm...lots to think about. BTW: Just saw a male Rose-breasted Grosbeak! I'm hoping it returns for a photo...
I like owlshade retreat, since you have a nice little whiskered screech owl in the habitat. Nice on the grosbeak, I'm sure we will be seeing your photo soon! Now how are you dividing your time up between the two sanctuaries?
How about Skyrie, your eyrie in the sky?
Wow--the cabin is incredible!!
Thanks Arlene! It's a sweet spot if you'd like to visit!
WATCHER’S ROOST ?

Your place sounds magical, Lor! Love how you incorporated the landscape into the structure, especially the granite boulder! Would love to see that.
Funny, the son-in-law found a sign that reads "Bare Feet Only"--but you are right. I need one that says "PJs Only"!
Thanks so such for reading and sharing!
I’ll send you photos if I can do it with your DM?
Pretty spiffy hideaway, I must say! How about "La Garita"? (the lookout)
Rhymes with margarita! I like it. Maybe La Garita Pajarito!
Anything that rhymes with margarita is good. Or comes with a margarita!
