Chiggers- Uffda!! I was always told to take an oatmeal bath. That doesn’t work the best! Might try the nail polish trick 👍

Nail polish must be better than oatmeal! But I hear a hot shower also does the trick....still scratching...

They are very aggressive!!! Trick is not to swim where you see geese and snails!

I had chiggers once. I still don’t want to talk about it.

Just posted about it--it was fantastic! I went over my Substack limit posting photos!

Chiggers! It's funny, you use the same word for the same little creature as we do in Jamaica. They're awful!

Must be universal...chiggers that is...sorry you have to deal with them in such a beautiful place.

We have other rather unpleasant creatures, like “forty legs” - but the tropics are never as neat and tidy as we expect them to be!

That hummingbird is stunning! It’s good for me to be reminded once in a while that birds, I just think of a super common, like the last three birds in your post, aren’t common for everyone! I’d never of guessed they were on your life list. And oof, chiggers. They are the reason I do not walk through tall grass. I had forgotten that we used to put nail polish on them, but we did generally use clear, lol. We also used to use camphor. However, I really like imagining you with hot pink nail polish on your body.

Hot pink polish always gets a reaction--from people if not the little itchy buggers.

First, I love the photo of the “White-eared Hummingbird”. Maybe your perfectionist photographer’s eye is not thrilled, but my artist eye, loves it. The slight blur lends a softness to it otherwise not achieved by perfect ‘crisp’ lines. So thank you for including it.

And, fishing in Alaska, very exciting. Where in Alaska?

I think #480 Great Crested Flycatcher is the same one that nested in the eaves above my back door this summer here in VT. Well , it’s possible…

Safe travels and don’t forget to sing loudly and carry bear spray. Oh, I know you only post photos of birds, (and adorable grandkids) one or two photos of trout or salmon, would be lovely.

Check out John's photo of the white-ear in today's post! Exquisite! Must be the camera...right? I posted more than birds in this one...enjoy! Soldotna, AK. And we had lunch in Anchorage with the governor!--that's a story for another time.
