Oh my gosh, what a fabulous 2 days. I was only going to spend one night but Ken was so generous with his time, and Karen with her patience of the bird nerds- what a riot. Those owls first off- I love the little field work we had to do. And then to experience the fallout of warblers that we knew had flown in overnight. BIRDS are the best! Thanks for the amazing experience and both of you for what you do for birds. Birding Bestie, Dawn from Dana

I totally missed this one, for some reason it never landed in my ‘box’.

Isn’t it just wonderful when a friend comes to visit, to share a favorite activity , and the stars align, or in this case, the birds, and it makes it just perfect. What wonderful photos , especially of the Elf Owl. I take it the APS now has to wait until breeding season is over?

Did you get a photo of the Lazuli bunting?

I love it when friends visit and the birds drop by... I put a "Do Not Disturb" sign with a drawing of an owl on the pole in case APS forgets...and I'm watching! Still working on the bunting photo--four come to the fountain but fly off every time I raise my camera!

I hope you can trust the APS. I had an experience with a company hired by the state of VT, to cut branches and trees that immediately affected the power lines. Which they do about every 20 years when they happen to think about it. In advance,I called the town to relay a message, even spoke with an understanding town clerk. Left a note on their parked truck, and actually spoke with the workers. This was at our seasonal camp in Northern VT. I have been planting trees for 15 years to protect the shoreline from erosion. And they were really starting to look good. Some took about that long to reach 7ft high. No where near the utility poles lines. The state actually has a program call Lake Wise for just that reason and others. I also marked a tree with a Great crested Flycatcher nesting in a cavity. Well, they took it down. Chopped off every inch of tree to ground level under the lines, most would not have even reached the line, even chopped a lilac bush!

I was heartbroken and fuming with no recourse. Even my husband had to tell me to forget about it. The best I could do was focus on the fact that my shade garden now has sunlight. Sorry for my rant it is still right up there on the surface every time I see all the wood chips and tree stubs. Maybe I should have posted every tree. 🤬
