Loved this post, Ken! Wonderful recordings as well. We hear the Great Kiskadee often in Guadalajara these months. Beautiful bird. But sometimes hard to see because he can hide himself so well in the foliage.
I've recently learned so much using the Merlin Sound ID app, which is wonderful, though not 100% accurate. But it often cues me to birds before I see them and helps me recognize their various songs. Are you familiar with Merlin?
My ears runneth over. Thanks.
Just for you...
You would be very welcome!

Thanks Michael! Love to have that Kiskadee on my list! May just have to head your way one of these days...
Yes! I keep saying I want to get better at identifying by ear. I think it takes a lot of practice. I can do it with some though.

Yes, but it doesn't work very well out at the lake. It seems to work better if you are close to the bird and there's no ambient noise.
Fantastic! I sure wish my hearing was better. And I really wish I knew more bird calls.
Yes, I have to deal with highway noise and border drones, but it's still amazing most of the time.
Do you know the Merlin Sound ID app? Really helps me with my poor hearing. I always make sure I see the bird, but it's a great tool.
