Is this at the upper end of Tombstone Canyon in Old Bisbee? Looks like it is near the top divide. I lived lower down in Old Bisbee in a former miner's shack above the Circle K on the scorpion side of the canyon (the opposite side was called the cockroach side). Anyway, I lived north, downhill of the tunnel across the road from the waterfall, for a year. It was the most beautiful place I have ever lived. Every morning during breeding season, I would get scolded by elf owls in the overhead oaks at the entrance to my cabin. I set up a major feeder complex and planted Salvias and Anisacanthus shrubs in my garden, attracting incredible birdlife. Plus, the waterfall was almost fully visible when it ran.
We're on Mule Pass, one mile before the tunnel. Bisbee Falls is another mile downhill. Sounds like you lived near where SABO used to be? 44 acres of some gorgeous canyon! I too have planted Salvias and Anisacanthus--the deer won't eat them! 178 species of birds including Yellow Grosbeaks, Flame-colored Tanagers, and a first state record, Orange-billed Nightingale-thrush in 2022. The Elf Owls nest in our power pole and are due any day now!
When I left Bisbee, I arranged for SABO to get my cabin as their new HQ. This is right after I had to leave SABO as an employee because they couldn't afford to pay me anymore. My next-door neighbor uphill was the Killer Bee guy.
I could live in that "tree house". You've done an incredible job. Congratulations...looks like your hard work has/will paid off. Love the pencil sharpener btw to the left of the leather chair along with the pencil holder. Keep on writing!!!
What a fantastic vantage spot and beautiful writing shed, Ken! Thanks to Karen Davis for guiding me to your publication. I look forward to reading more of your work and seeing your photos. Thank you.
Congratulations, what a grand little place for winged and footed creatures alike . I’m sure it must be a dream come true . And to have been serenaded by a Hermit Thrush, my favorite bird song. It really does look like it has been sprinkled with fairy dust . Especially live the photo of the Painted Redstart.

Wow, nicely done! That's a lot of hard work, and love the pictures. The Painted Redstart does it for me.
Thank you! Yes, love the Painted Redstarts...had a pair this morning hanging out in the yard. Wonderful flash of color...

Happy for you, Ken!
Thanks Lor! Yes, really love the painted redstarts--and so nice to have one stay in the yard for a couple of weeks. First time for that...
Wow, that’s incredible!! Do you take guest writers? Really, that’s so awesome.
Anytime, Karen! Just put a pair of cots in the loft!
