This is awesome! And omg, I laughed pretty hard at the idea of posting bird watcher encounters. I gave up chasing birds in about year 2 of bird watching - it was always futile for me and it wasn't what I found most fulfilling. I go to the same location every day (for 8 years) - I don't have a back yard but it's similarly fulfilling for me to see what comes in and out of this one little spot all the time.

Thanks Karen! So happy you enjoyed this! Don't you think there should be a guidebook on where to find birders? I had a lot of fun with the description of Chuck, my Flagstaff birding friend. So many ideas for others...I should ask them to contribute photos of themselves! I agree with you about chasing...not nearly as fulfilling as watching birds in my PJs! Sounds like you've gotten to know one place really well--bet it's rewarding... Enjoy the Real World!

I think that idea is hilarious! I don’t birdwatch at all, nor do I write for the Stack. I found you, Ken, through a Substack intro email. I’m just here to read and learn new things. :)

Awesome Jennifer! Glad you're enjoying these crazy ramblings of mine. I have lots of readers who don't birdwatch--so I'm trying to make these interesting and entertaining for them as well. Sounds like it's working for you! Thanks so much!

Still haven't made it to Kachina Wetlands. We've spent this week in NWAZ but nowhere near as birdy as the Flagstaff area was for you. Passed through Flag today, aspens done too but other deciduous trees colorful. Home tonight.

Yeah, that Mountainaire neighborhood has a nice variety, more than jays and crows!
