What a gift your newsletter is, Ken! Glad to be a subscriber. Reading one of your notes from May: some of your friends are well and happy in the Bay Area. Bob and I have many red-breasted nuthatches at the feeder, and the white-crowned sparrows and Swainson’s thrushes abound. But no celebration allowed when it’s all so precarious and fire season is upon us. Thank you for your wonderful notes.

Thanks so much Brenda! You're too kind... I'm hoping to see the return of "my" red-breasted nuthatch any day now, along with all the winter sparrows. The Swainson's Thrush showed just the other day, but he's still too shy to come into the open. This morning I woke at 4:30 AM to the calls of Common Poor-wills--strange this time of year. And I just photographed a Bell's Vireo! Another yard rarity! Eventually I'll get caught up with these notes and be posting in real time! Thanks for reading!
