My last visit to SPH was before the Covid lockdown!! Must go back there when the mud dries up. The Holy Trinity Monastery is back open but my one visit lately discouraged me when I saw that they cut down all of the trees on the south side of the north pond. That's where I've found rare birds like Yellow-throated Warbler. They have no environmental conscious there. It's frustrating.
So sad about the cottonwoods! What are they thinking? The San Pedro House is still closed, but not the grounds or trails--I stopped in last week. A huge branch of the giant cottonwood broke off! I should visit the monastery this week...
No cottonwoods at the monastery along north pond -- mesquites and hackberries. This is just one of many "improvements" made there that have ruined parts of the natural landscape. I saw that a large branch from a cottonwood fell at SPH. I just hope they don't decide to cut the tree down.
